MAP

The map of the Bangkok Metropolis Area shows the busiest central part of the great city of Bangkok, including all the important government offices, foreign embassies, international organizations, banking and financial establishments, hotels, department stores, shopping centres, cultural institutions and public places of entertainment.

The map also includes the areas where major bus terminals, railway stations, expressways, express boat landings, cross river piers, skytrain and metro routes, Bangkok International Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport are located.

The urban sprawl of the greater Bangkok Metropolitan Area extends beyond the borders of Bangkok province, spilling into the neighbouring provinces of Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon. The province as it is today was created in 1971 when the previous Bangkok province, changwat Phra Nakhon, merged with Thonburi province.

Bangkok is subdivided into 50 districts, which are further subdivided into 169 kwaeng. Each district is managed by a district chief appointed by the governor. District councils, elected to four-year terms, serve as advisory bodies to their respective district chiefs.
